Whareatea
The protecting arms of Whareatea welcome with love, peace and shelter from the waters of Tangaroa. The islands of Raukawa become the stepping stones for wanderers and explorers on their journey to the distant North Island, and the sheltered waterways of the Marlborough Sounds to the South East. (Known as the Taurapa or Stern carving of the waka of the gods) The forests of Whareatea growing and living as intended by Tane Mahuta, the god of the forest, and all that live within the cloak of Papatuanuku.
